Andrew Cuomo used the Newtown tragedy as justification for passing a massive gun control package in the middle of the night. In his rush to be the first executive in America to pass gun control legislation after Newtown, Cuomo failed to notice that the law was so poorly written that it turned many New York law enforcement officers into criminals overnight.
Cuomo’s heavy-handedness earned him massive grassroots protests around the state. This image of protestors at the Capitol in Albany was our most shared Facebook post of 2013:
Since passage, 52 counties and 340 cities, towns and villages have passed resolutions in opposition to the SAFE Act:
The Astorino-Moss plan for public safety contains a repeal of the SAFE Act and focuses on keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill – not stripping law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights.
By the way, shootings are up in heavily-regulated New York City.
